Today is the Feast of the Presentation in the Temple (Luke 2:22-40).
On this date, which is 40 days after Christmas, there is also a tradition of celebrating Candlemas.
Candles may be blessed at Masses on this day, and used by individuals, families, and communities gathered for prayer in the home. The blessed candles, symbols of Jesus as the Light of the World, are lit throughout the year at important times, to accompany prayers for the sick, for those facing special challenges, and at the passing of a loved one.
Please feel free to bring a candle from home to be blessed at any of the daily Masses today (6:30am, 8:10am, or 12:10pm), and share in the Candlemas tradition.
