Grieving is a natural process each of us goes through after the death of a loved one. Sharing feelings with others who have experienced the death of a loved one helps many people to heal. While no one can take away the sadness, others can help by listening and caring.
Bereavement Support Groups:
American Martyrs Catholic Community offers bereavement support groups which meet periodically throughout the year. Anyone who has experienced the loss of a loved one may join the group. Parish membership is not required. Most people find that a group is most beneficial if started not sooner than three months after the death. However, this is an individual decision.
Sometimes a person may be more comfortable processing feelings regarding the death of a loved one in a one-on-one setting rather than in a group setting. In those cases, our parish offers Stephen Ministry, a confidential one-to-one program in which trained volunteers provide emotional and spiritual support.
